Update on the Shoreward SocksPosted by: Peanut on Dec 07, 2011 |

I thought I should give a little progress report on my Shoreward socks: I decided to go all out and learn something and did the gusset and heel flap construction for a toe-up sock. It went pretty well and looks nice. I’m not totally sure I like the look of the slip stitch pattern on the heel but it sort of blends into the ribbing on the back of the leg and I thought if I was learning something it would be best to actually follow the instructions. Once I was finished the heel things sped up again and I’m already finished a pattern repeat, with just two more to go on the leg. It must be the ribbing and cable pattern but the sock looks really big; I had to pull it on with the needles in last night to convince myself I was knitting a socks that was going to fit me. At just 51 stitches around the pattern goes pretty quickly but I find all the twisted stitches and tiny cables make for very tense knitting and I like to let this sock stew for a few days between sittings. This is one of those projects where I know I'll need to cast on the second sock right away to avoid Second Sock Syndrome.
