Yum.

We grew this strawberry ourselves (I know - it's a funny shape). I picked it after work today when I was watering my plants and washed it off and put it on the table. The sun hit it and when I walked back into the kitchen to collect it I could smell strawberries in the air. Mmmm. We each ate half and it was delicious. Sweet and flavourful as only a home grown strawberry can be. I can't wait for the next one.

Just an aside: Mohops just might be the neatest shoes I've seen yet. I discovered them today and I think I'll save up a bit over the winter and get some for next summer.

Yarn: Oceanwind Knits, fingering in Rainforest
Size: 60 stitches around (to fit my feet)
Yardage: 2 skeins, roughly 300 yards
Needles: 2 mm, 5" rosewood

After much procrastinating I am finally finished my socks (err. well actually, after I finished taking my pictures and walking around in them for most of the evening I discovered that there were some ends that hadn't been woven in yet). The pattern was quick to memorize (there are only three different rows and you do one of them twice) and made it seem like my socks were going even faster than usual; I think this is because I was counting repeats instead of rounds. The ribbing makes them nice and snug. My only regret is not making them a bit taller. I got more sock out of the end of the first skein than I expected and have way more left over than I am likely to need for darning later on.

In other news, things are going to get very exciting, and hectic, around here very soon. After looking for over a year we have finally found a house we both like and can afford and will be moving in near the end of June. I apologize right now for any overly sporadic blogging that occurs while we're getting ourselves settled and sorted out. We are very excited (and moderately terrified) about this change. I am especially looking forward to having a yard and doing some gardening - I have long dreamed of having a strawberry pot just outside our door where we can grab a few ripe berries for breakfast.

I finished something this weekend (finally!). This is the yarn I started on Erin's wheel a while back. It's a superwash merino and was so lovely to spin; I didn't even bother with pre-drafting it moved so smoothly. My finished yarn is about 75 grams and 165 metres. A lovely, squashy (and totally unbalanced) two-ply.


I had a flash of inspiration while I was setting up my Ladybug and jimmied some tension for the bobbins on the Traditional's lazy-kate. You can see that despite measuring out two even sections of wool I've got a lot of extra singles on the second bobbin. I'm not sure how that happened - it seems too big a difference to just be my spinning. I must have moved something to the wrong pile after measuring. I think I'll probably wind it into a centre-pull ball and ply it on a spindle.


Now I have to decide what to make with it.
