Rockin' Sock Club: September-October 2011Posted by: Peanut on Nov 15, 2011 |

I could probably re-title my blog "What I Meant to Post About Last Week". I went to knitting tonight and pulled out the sock I wanted to work on and realized I had taken a picture of it last Tuesday with the intention of blogging about it that night. I'm not really sure what happened but my guess is that I played a bunch of fetch with Abby and then fell asleep without remembering about my picture.
When we got home from our trip to BC I had an exciting parcel waiting for me: my September shipment from the Rockin' Sock Club. This is one of those shipments that makes me really happy to be in the club because this is not a colourway I'd have picked out myself but seeing it in person and knitting it up lets me really appreciate it. It's called Drop Dead Sexy and the skein is Socks that Rock Mediumweight (which means the knitting goes quickly). Tina's dyer's notes were all about the colours of fall and how many more there are than the bright orange and red leaves we all think of.
Both patterns are toe-up this time. Pattern #1 is Socks with a Secret by Cat Bordhi and has a different toe construction, a totally new heel construction, and a pocket on the back of the leg. I'm not really sure about any of those components (though after asking around I've learned that some people find these toe and heel styles very comfortable) but I really like the texture on the foot and might borrow it in future. Pattern #2 is Shoreward Socks by Sivia Harding and these are the ones I'm knitting right now. They have tiny cables and twisted stitches and if I'm feeling up to it I will learn how to do a heel flap and gusset construction on a toe-up sock. I really like the way the colours are knitting into tiny stripes though and might do a short-row heel just to avoid messing them up. I'll have to decide soon because after a second night of knitting I'm almost ready for the heel.
