I got some new yarn in the mail last night. Meet Osprey, in the colour "Delft", from Quince&Co.

I first found out about this company a little while ago and just loved their philosophy and the look of their yarns. If what they say on their website it true it is entirely possibly that the trip from Portland, Maine to my front door was the longest journey this wool has yet made. I haven't taken it out of the skein yet but so far I love it. It is soft and squishy but still feels like it will wear nicely. It has a set of super cute tags and arrived all wrapped up in tissue. It felt like I was getting a special present.

This yarn is destined to be a new winter hat. Something slouchy but still snug around my ears so that it keeps the wind out. It is not alone in this mission though. Giving a helping hand is a skein of Drops Kid-Silk that has been in my stash since my sister gave it to me last Christmas. The Yarn Harlot knit a hat for her daughter a little while back with a strand of soft, mohairy yarn held along side something sturdier and I loved the effect. Ever since I have been dreaming of a soft, slouchy, warm hat with a delicate blue hallow.

I had a bit of difficulty trying to match up colours over the computer so my order from Quince&Co. also included a colour card.

I don't know why but owning a colour card makes me feel kind of important. Like I must really know what I'm doing because I own a colour card or something. It's a bit silly but kind of fun at the same time.

The card is very pretty. I love all those tiny swatches of colour. I can't wait for the next time I want to order one of these yarns and can go to my colour card to decide what would work best for my project.

I'm drinking tea right now. This book always makes me want to have tea; it's just mentioned so often. It also makes me enjoy housework and really want to make preserves.* This is one of my favourite and most frequently read books as shown by the faded spine - it used to be pink - and worn corners. There is something so fantastic about Anne and the ideas she embodies. It was given to me as part of a box set sometime between age ten and twenty. I can't even remember who gave them to me now but I'm very glad they did.

Do you have a book you read over and over?

*Right now I'm thinking of trying out a recipe for Cinnamon Watermelon Rind Pickles but a bit unsure if we can finish off that much watermelon without drafting friends to help.

Do you ever see something that just makes you want to sew (or knit or paint etc.)? I'd had a kind of a crummy Thursday and was spending my evening hunched over at my computer reading blogs when I came across this post at Lovely Design (an awesome place to visit by the way). I didn't even read the post until later on. I saw that first picture and just needed to be in my sewing room putting fabric together. I wanted to hear the machine and smell the iron and create something from little bits of fabric.

It actually took me a little while to figure out what to work on. I didn't really want to spend time cutting up stuff before sewing so I was looking for something that was already ready to go. I have a few quilt tops in the works but they are hand piecing projects and that wasn't what I wanted. I thought about grabbing my scraps bin and sewing the bits together (I've done that before) but I didn't want to start a new quilt top when I knew there weren't enough scraps in the bin to finish it yet. After a bit more searching I unearthed this box and it was just what I needed.


This is a paper piecing project I started a few years ago. It was a class I took with my mum for Mother's Day. Have you ever tried paper piecing? It's totally different from any other kind of piecing I've done. Sew, trim, cute. Sew, trim, cut. It's rhythmic and simple and the theme of this picture is just right for the season.


It's kind of a mystery too. I know what the finished panel will look like but the individual sections don't look like anything.


Gradually to you join them together and you see a little more of the picture. Very exciting.
