I spent some time trying to make sense of the piles of things in my studio today (and hoping I'd come across the sundress pattern I know is here somewhere). I was making good progress (the books are now on a shelf) but just as I was walking out to take a short break a bag of roving caught my eye. I grabed it and my ladybug and sat in the family room to spin for a bit.

Total yardage (pre-bath) is a little under 80 m and lets guess a bulky weight (110 g). Very squashy. Not sure what it will become yet but the nobbliness seams to lend itself to garter stitch. Maybe with a big wooden button.

I didn't bother to weigh the roving when I separated it. I just broke it in half and then tore each strip into quarters. I'm always hopeful that they will match up perfectly when I ply but I was surprised this time when this is all I had leftover from the longer singles - pretty close!


Fibre is "Wild and Wooly" #3, Superwash merino from Sunnyside Ellen. Very yummy.

 

These are the cherries that make us think of our favourite summer dessert - clafouti.

The recipe I use is "Sour Cherry Clafouti" from the end of the Editor's Letter from the June 2006 issue of Martha Stewart Living (and for some reason is not on their web-site). It is so deliciously simple and if I ever find a cherry pitter it will get even easier. These cherries are sweet, not sour, but they still taste wonderful tossed with a little cognac and cooked into the clafouti's custardy batter.

It goes into the oven all liquidy with dribbles of liqueur and cherries falling over themselves and comes out golden and puffed up. It settles down a bit once it's out of the oven but the aroma is so delicious I nearly always burn myself rushing to eat it before the cherries have cooled down enough.

This one was made to share with our friend Liette who joined us for some tea and chatter before she leaves for her new home at the end of the week. A French dessert for a French girl; it seemed appropriate. There is a bit left over. It will probably disappear as breakfast tomorrow morning.

A year ago today we got together with our friends and family and wore our very best clothes and exchanged words and rings and ate cake and danced and drank slushies and smiled and laughed and hugged everyone and became Mr & Mrs.
