My Sewing Bug had been a bit neglected lately. My Knitting Bug has only been around for a couple of years, making it much younger, but somehow it has nearly taken over. I think it may be the portability of knitting and the way it can almost always be done sitting on the couch watching a movie. It’s easier to stop and start a knitting project - there is less equipment involved.
 
I still love sewing but I’ve been finding that my sewing projects tend to be large and involved or for other people. I haven’t been doing so many simple little project and they are the ones that I find really feed creativity - knitting is full of these and that is probably part of its appeal. I needed something very simple and pretty to wake up my Sewing Bug and make it a little hungrier.
 
This has got to be one of the simplest projects out there. I followed the Very Easy Pincushions instructions from the Purl Bee to make myself a new pincushion (my old one tends to roll around the table). There isn’t any machine sewing involved so I was able to do most of it while chatting with Rob and I got to use some of my own home-made felt for the top. It will be a perfect assistant at my sewing table.

Now that we are past all the wedding preparation I finally have some time for blogging a few of the other things that have arrived in the past week.
 
These are two new sewing books that I had ordered a couple of weeks ago. The both include patterns and instructions for variousprojects and are spiral bound so they’ll lay flat on my work table (Yay!).  I’ve already picked out a couple of projects that I want to try as soon as I’ve cleaned up enough space around my sewing table (wedding preparations kind of eclipsed housework for the past couple of weeks) - a check book cover, a cafe apron, some cushion covers and a pair of wide leg lounge pants (so comfy). Other projects will have to wait until I can get a few more supplies or we move into new space where I don’t have to worry so much about making holes in the walls - a magazine holder, a wall organizer, a room divider with little pockets in it (they look so cute).
 
Something I’ve found fun about these two books is that they have some very similar projects such as pot holders or aprons but each writer has made hers very differently from the other so they don’t really overlap. Both writers also encourage you to play with fabrics and designs to make things uniquely your own and to reflect your personal style and how you like to live.
 
I can’t wait to get started.

This is my submission to Tie One On . The theme for May and June was “the pocket” and since this apron started with the pocket fabric (and it is certainly the pocket that makes it cute) I decided to submit it.
 
I had meant to have this ready for my party last weekend (since it goes with my party dress) but I ended up too busy and never got around to it. My dress is going to double as my Hallowe’en costume this year though and I thought I’d probably want an apron if I’m going to be working in it - it just seems appropriate.
 
The apron is just plain white muslin and the pocket is a batik I saw in the quilt shop in May. It was just so lovely and delicate looking and, since I had just read about tie one on and the latest theme, I immediately envisioned it as a dainty little pocket against a white apron.  The lace was a finishing touch. I added the coloured waistband and tie tips (though you can’t see those in this picture) when I was doing the cutting out.
