We got home safely Sunday night. I spent Monday trying to think up a witty blog entry but failed completely and thought I'd just show you a bunch of pictures like last time. As a started to pick and choose I discovered that I had way more pictures than I could reasonably force you to load in a blog entry so I'm just going to show off my nifty gallery features and put up a bunch of pictures over there.

Here's a quick sum up of our vacation: we celebrated my grandmother's eightieth birthday; I helped her move the last of seven tonnes of bricks; we napped; I knit; we read; we went for walks; we ate good food; I got a bunch of beach pebbles for sewing weights and we finished the trip off with BlizzCon (Blizzard Games Convention) in California, probably the nerdiest thing I have ever experienced.

The picture above is a beetle we saw when were were walking back to my grandmother's house one afternoon. Isn't it cool?

I set up a photo studio (well, a tripod) in our kitchen yesterday and photographed my yarn stash for Ravelry. The sun was out and the light in our kitchen was lovely. I felt so important and professional using my tripod. The yarn was very well behaved. I would just plunk down a skein and the camera would focus and the sun would shine. It was so easy. I got 49 pictures of yarn from my stash (do I really have that much yarn? That doesn't even include the extra skeins!) and then I didn't have anything else to take pictures of ... but it had been so fun ... I couldn't just stop.

So I took a picture of my snack. I really like how incredibly purple beets are (I also really love the word purple, especially if you kind of draw it out and say it with a bit of an English accent).


And I took a picture of the roving I'd drafted out that morning. I'm trying to spin it as thinly as possible. It's quite challenging.


And I took a picture of all my little balls of leftover sock yarn that I save for darning socks ... along with the darning egg that they've never actually met before ... I have some socks that really need darning.


The yarn at the top is Cardigan by Suli Fibres. It's handspun and handyded and features wool, mohair, silk and sparkles. I got it a couple of years ago and I can't decide what to do with it - it's too pretty to use for anything that could turn out badly.

Yesterday was a beautiful fall day (today was not - we got both rain and snow). Rob said there was lots of frost on the car when we were getting ready for work so I grabbed my camera on my way out the door; I love the look of frost in the sunshine. These pictures are from spots along my walk to work.


Monday had been quite moist and the frost was especially thick. In some places the ice crystals were very long and visible. All the puddles were frozen over too. It was a lovely time to be outside; the air was so crisp and there was almost no wind so the lake was very still and mirror like. It stayed that way all day.


All the birch trees around here have turned gold. We took a drive a little way along the highway before dinner. The landscape nearly glowed in the evening sun. I didn't take any pictures from the car but I do have one I liked from my walk back along the path to meet Rob after work.
