Nitobe Memorial GardenPosted by Peanut in Vacation , Photography , Garden , Autumn |
One of my favourite days on our trip was when we went to the Nitobe Memorial Garden at UBC. I'd seen pictures of the Nitobe Garden during a lecture when I was at university. I can't remember whose class it was or what the rest of the lecture was about but ever since then I've wanted to see this garden.
It is an incredibly serene space. It was a bright sunny day when we went but the light coming into the garden was filtered through so many trees that even the brightest spots felt dappled. Everything has a soft, lush, quiet feel. The gravel paths felt unnaturally loud as we walked. I was glad to be able to visit the garden for the first time in autumn, because it is my favourite season, but I feel this garden must be beautiful even on grey, windy winter days. I would like to see it in the summer when the iris bed is full of flowers. I'd also like to walk through under an umbrella in the rain.
