I spun some yarn the other day. It's a birthday present for my sister from three years ago. I thought maybe I should get it finished and delivered. I made up one skein for her in 2008 but that was about three days before we got Abby and spinning went on hold until we got through puppy-hood. This is fun stuff to spin. It's Blue Faced Leicester (I think) with little bits of yarn from an old pair of very colourful mittens carded into it. I plied the first skein with some shiny white thread so I'm doing the same thing again but I kind of wish I'd left it as a singles; part of me thinks it looks cooler less fluffy.
I seem to forget how much I enjoy spinning. I go for long breaks and then sit down to finish a project and it just feels so good. I'm thinking of giving myself some sort of push to spin more frequently. Maybe I'll borrow from the Yarn Harlot and introduce "Tuesdays Are For Spinning" to my life. I'd really like to spin enough yarn to knit myself a sweater but am hesitant to make the investment in materials. Even though I love spinning I'm not really very good at it from a technical standpoint and a sweater's worth of yarn is a big commitment to consistency. On the other hand by the time I finished I'd be pretty good at both spinning and plying and there is nothing wrong with a sweater you only wear at home (or on really, really cold days).
