I really wanted to do something crafty on Wednesday but didn’t really want to put any effort into it. A new book would have been perfect- you can just look at the pictures and read over the projects and decide which ones you want to make at some later date - but I didn’t have any books I hadn’t ready through many times already. I hung around the house for a bit considering and dismissing several possible projects. I decided that I wanted to play with yarn and fabric but I didn’t really want the pressure of having to make, finish, or even measure anything.
I eventually ended up in the living room with my yarn basket and got out my ball winder. I have a bunch of half used skeins and balls so I decided to wind them up on the ball winder. It was kind of fun to tidy up everything and see what I actually had. Somethings looked a lot cooler as centre pull balls so I wound up all my skeins of handicraft cotton just for the fun of it (one of them became a dishcloth at the dentist’s on Friday). Eventually the static build up on the ball winder was making the fibres in some of the yarns stand out on their ends and make a halo around the ball. The picture at the top is a fuzzy “textured polyester” (according to the sticker I found inside the cone) - the halo was so prominent with this yarn that I had to take a picture.
The balls shrivelling up from the inside kind of reminds me of the special effects on Star Trek.
