I received my swap apron on Friday. It's so cute and so springy. Included with it was a recipe for Chicken and Wild Rise Soup that we'll be making up as soon as we can gather up all the ingredients. There was also a card of three big vintage buttons. These were extra cool since I had been thinking just that afternoon that I really needed some nice big buttons for my button box - now I have some!

This is a reversible apron (two aprons in one!) and I love the piping on the pockets. Here's a look at one of the pockets and the buttons:

Since this apron arrived just as I was starting dinner (and I wasn't going to wait to open the package) it has already been given a good test drive and performed beautifully for making dinner, washing dishes, doing laundry and working on some craft stuff (more on that later).

We went to the 2008 Malanka held by the local Ukrainian Association last night. We'd never gone before but will definitely go again. I didn't have my camera last night so this is a picture of the hair band that was decorating our table.Elise (the lovely lady whoinvited us) said I could wear it (and gave us a wonderful doggie bag of sausage and perogies when we went home). There was so much food; we ate perogies and sausages and cabbage rolls until we were stuffed. After dinner there were Ukrainian dances performed by adults and children (the four year olds were so cute) in traditional outfits and then general dances for everyone else (we polka'd to the best of our ability - loads of fun).

Zeke is an elderly cat. We are not quite sure exactly how old he is but the vet estimates he's about thirteen. He's also a very good cat - more likely to go for the knobs on the end of my knitting needles than for my ball of yarn. But every so often he becomes quite mischievous and kitten like. This is what we found when we got up this morning...

 

 

Oddly we considered this a good thing since the yarn is for Zeke's Christmas present (I realize that it is well past Christmas but our tree is still up and I think that's most of what Zeke is aware of) and I wasn't sure what he was going to think of it. Looks like he likes it.
