Yesterday was Maisie's first birthday. We had a little party with friends and family big and small (Abby behaved really well). I put out Maisie's favourite things to eat: strawberries, clementines, carrots, peas, cheese, penguin crackers, apples and grape tomatoes. We also had jell-o and cupcakes and, for the very first time, ice cream. She seemed a little unsure about the ice cream at first but quickly decided that it was a good thing and could she have some more please? Everyone else seemed to have a good time too. It's hard to believe that Maisie is really a whole year old, but at the same time it's hard to think of her as not being the lovely little person she is right now: toddling around the house, looking through her books for the pages with kitties on them, saying words (this, that, kitty, daddy), playing games and trying to climb onto the ottoman. She has changed and grown in so many exciting ways over the past year. I feel so fortunate to have been able to watch her and I'm excited for all the things still to come.
