Warning: Lots of photos ahead!
Is it really mid-january already? It’s hard to believe. We still need to take down our tree. It’s on the list for today. I like to keep it up until the 6th but didn’t want to take it town mid-week.
We had a lovely holiday. Full of family and friends and good food and time at home. I got myself a new big aperture lens to capture it with and I’m so glad I did. I’m always unhappy with the quality of my photos at Christmas time but this year they really make me smile. I was able to catch so many more moments. Maisie does a lot of dancing right now and there is lots of music to dance to at Christmas time. We went for some really nice walks on warmer days and stayed in on the colder ones. Maisie picked out a pillow (dog bed) for Abby when we went shopping for her Christmas treat. Abby was so excited about it and even lay on it a few times once we’d convinced her it wasn’t something to eat. Ollie helped us put up the Christmas decorations and, along with Fred, gave everything she could reach a test nibble. I hung all the really important and delicate ornaments above the window on the garland and moved the cat tree to the other side of the room to keep them safe. Maisie got to spend a few afternoons over at Granny’s house. It’s always so much fun to explore the ornaments on someone else’s tree and to use the special tea cups.
Rob and I stayed up on the longest night of the year to enjoy a quiet glass of cognac after Maisie was asleep. With just the tree lights on the living room feels so warm and magical. Christmas was a busy, exciting, tiring, wonderful day full of present and food. Watching Maisie open her stocking and presents was so much fun. I remember how exciting Christmas morning was when I was little. I loved coming downstairs to turn on the tree and hurry my parents’ up so we could start opening things. Boxing Day and the day after were quieter and spent more at home. Sometimes now that post-Christmas quiet time is my favourite part. I worked on a sweater slowly and steadily for the whole of the holiday and finished it off just yesterday; I'm hoping to block it this evening. Rob had to work most of the days between Christmas and New Year so Maisie and I had the house to ourselves a lot. We got into a routine by about the middle of the week. New Years Eve we spent making and decorating cookies at Granny’s house in the afternoon and watching the city’s fireworks in the evening. Maisie said the fireworks were beautiful and it was so nice to have an evening warm enough for us to all go down to the lake and watch them properly.
p.s. What? You’re Christmas ornaments don’t wear diapers? This is a serious issue.
