We went for a walk around the nearby lake not long after moving into our house. There were lots of mosquitos and, far better, lots of dragonflies. We usually see blue-green dragonflies and these red and black ones were something new. One followed us around for a while (probably taking advantage of our cloud of mosquitos) and then landed on Rob.

I finished my new shirt this morning. It took me a little longer than I'd anticipated because I decided I didn't like the look of top stitching on this fabric and did all the finishing by hand instead. I used this pattern with several modifications.

When I did my mock-up I found the sleeves a little tighter than I like so I added three-quarters of an inch to the sleeve width....

My co-worker and I found this guy when we were walking back to the office this afternoon. It's hard to tell from the picture but he's about two inches long when he stretches out (those are standard paving stones for scale). He was quite bold, working his way up the middle of a well used path, and sported a bit of a mohawk. I wonder what he turns into?

My sister invited me over on Friday night to help her try out some new recipes she's planning for New Years day. She got an Indian cook book for Christmas and we had a lot of fun reading through it (so many yummy things). The recipes we were trying were for a kind of deep fried bread, the name of which neither of us could pronounce, and a caramelized carrot pudding.

Christmas Toys

Zeke got a new toy for Christmas. A catnip egg roll loosely based on the “Feline dim sum” pattern from Knitty. I had started off making the wanton but it was going to take me too long to knit the whole square so it turned into a half size egg roll (bind offs and decreases meant the knitting would gradually get faster).
