Accidental Apron

I taught an apron sewing class today. Our class was pretty small but that made it good practice for me; I'm still pretty nervous every time I teach. This is the apron I made as I was teaching. It is also my entry for the next Tie One On.

The theme is "spend no money" and aprons are due at the end of April. I had read that earlier this week and thought "I should hav...

Spring Swap Apron

I received my swap apron on Friday. It's so cute and so springy. Included with it was a recipe for Chicken and Wild Rise Soup that we'll be making up as soon as we can gather up all the ingredients. There was also a card of three big vintage buttons. These were extra cool since I had been thinking just that afternoon that I really needed some nice big buttons for my button box - now I have some!

Here's the front:
<img src="http://inapeanutshell.com/images/63/DSCN5774....

A Spring Apron

I put the apron I made into the mail today. It was a lot of fun to make and turned out so cute I might have to make another for myself. I used the pattern from Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdotter. It's a reversible apron so I put pockets on both sides. I also made the side ties much wider than called for in the pattern so that they'd make a nice bow in the back. Here a...

Having a hot shower has become something of a luxury for the last few weeks. No one seems to know why. It was never a problem before.

Apron Update: I got some new fabric this afternoon and will be washing, cutting and sewing it this weekend. I'm going to do something a little simpler than my...

Apron Inspirations

I've been percolating ideas for the Sassy Apron Swap for the past little while. They are finally starting to solidify to the point where I can now write them down and share them (this is how my creative process always goes - rarely is anything put on paper that hasn't buzzed around in my head for a week or two first).

The theme for the apron is Spring and the requirements are that it be washable (and pre-washed) and have a pocket.

To me spring is a time of waking u...

It's so handy to have a pocket right where you need it and just great to never worry about spilling anything on yourself because you're already wearing an apron. It made me feel kind of industrious and domestic too - like I was going to be getting things done (like posting a whole bunch of back en...

Polka Dotted Lovies

Here is my entry for the February Tie One On - a pretty pink and brown polka dotted apron with one big pink polka dot for the pocket. I used most of the apron pattern from In Stitches (Amy Butler) but made the pocket according to the "apple pocket" directions in Bend the Rules Sewing (Amy Karol). I made the bottom trim a little wider than the pattern called for, to ...

The two patterns are by Amy Butler; they are the Barcelona Skirts pattern (with a really cute apron overlay that I can't wait to wear) and the Sophia Carry-all (which is really cute even though it isn't an apr...

The Pocket

The theme for May and June was “the pocket” and since this apron started with the pocket fabric (and it is certainly the pocket that makes it cute) I decided to submit it.

I had meant to have this ready for my party last weekend (since it goes with my party dress) but I ended up too busy and never got around to i...
