I might be a little crazy.
No, not because I made matching socks for Maisie and me.
And no, not because it's taking me fourteen pictures to show them to you either. I like the way the pictures tell a little story.
I think I might be a little bit crazy because even though I finished my socks in April I didn't wear them until this little photo shoot in September because I really, really wanted to have pictures of us wearing our socks together and I didn't want mine to be all worn out already by the time I was able to do it.
These socks took me ages.
The yarn is Tanis Fiber Arts Blue Label Fingering and the colourway is from her 2013 Year in Colour Club. It's the March colourway, meaning that this yarn arrived only slightly after Maisie did. These socks were the first thing I started knitting after Maisie was born (it's incredible to remember how teeny and floppy she was when I took that picture, and how completely bewildered I felt). They didn't have a deadline and got set aside a few times for more pressing knitting projects. I finished them a little over a year after I started them. But there was so much yarn leftover. I just loved the idea of Maisie having a pair too so I started a sock for her and I finished it pretty quickly. Then I lost the little bit of paper I'd written my numbers on and couldn't remember how many stitches I was supposed to cast on for the second sock. The first sock lived like that for a while, and then the weather started to cool and I decided to just make an educated guess and knit a second sock. It turned out pretty well and if I hadn't found my little bit of paper the other day I probably wouldn't have really noticed that the two socks aren't the same. They fit Maisie reasonably well and sometimes she even pulls them out of her drawer.
Of course the best thing about socks is that it means you're probably going to also want some shoes so you can go outside.
